Voice Over Internet Protocol (or VoIP) uses the internet to transmit and receive phone calls.

VoIP systems connect to the internet usually with commonly available broadband equipment. This makes them very flexible and cost effective. The most popular type of VoIP system is SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) which has very good quality and can provide other services as well as just voice data it can transmit and receive video data such as for video conferencing.

SIP Trunks are the next generation of telecommunications, replacing ISDN Trunks and taking us towards 21CN - the 21st Century Network which is being rolled out by BT. This multi billion pound network upgrade will take the UK to the next level in telecommunications.

SIP Trunk Information:

► SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is a worldwide protocol used to control and send/receive telephone calls using the Internet Protocol (IP) between users.

► The Comms Company use Voiceflex as our SIP Provider.

► We carry telephone calls over the internet, which can be routed end-to-end over the internet or breakout to existing landline or mobile carriers.

► Voiceflex is a pure Business to Business service, which aligns well with the Comms Company's client base.

► SIP Trunks are the next generation of telecommunications, replacing ISDN Trunks and taking us towards 21CN - the 21st Century Network.

There are a number of benefits over and above ISDN:

► Number portability. Move office anywhere and take your present BT telephone number/s with you.

► Out of area numbers. Office in London, but need an Edinburgh number, not a problem. Your SIP connection can be programmed with any number area in the UK and most of Europe and the USA.

► Failover - if ISDN fails or internet connection has an issue, then your business numbers can be automatically redirected.

► Instant provisioning of numbers and lines.

► Emergency 999 calls be supported.

► Installation costs from nil to approximately £400, depending on your requirements, rental cost 56% cheaper than ISDN.
